Experience the Soul of Italian Opera in Milan, Rome, and Naples
Prepare to embark on an extraordinary journey through Italy's greatest opera houses as Teatro alla Scala, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, and the legendary Teatro San Carlo open their doors to five landmark performances across thirteen unforgettable days this October.
In Milan, Teatro alla Scala — the most celebrated opera house in the world — presents two exceptional evenings. On October 13, Giselle, choreographed in the immortal tradition of Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot and revived by the legendary French ballerina Yvette Chauviré, is conducted by Mikhail Agrest in a production graced by sets and costumes by the great Aleksandr Benois. On October 15, Liliana Cavani's acclaimed production of Verdi's La Traviata, conducted by Michele Gamba, stars the radiant American soprano Nadine Sierra as Violetta alongside tenor Piero Pretti as Alfredo Germont and baritone Boris Pinkhasovich as Giorgio Germont. To hear Nadine Sierra sing Violetta at La Scala is one of the great experiences.
In Rome, conductor Michele Mariotti presides over two evenings of extraordinary distinction at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. On October 17, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle is performed by a remarkable solo quartet soprano Hasmik Torosyan, countertenor Carlo Vistoli, tenor Dmitry Korchak, and the great Italian bass Michele Pertusi. On October 18, a production of Verdi's Falstaff, directed by Michael Mariotti, unites Luca Salsi in the title role Falstaff, the luminous soprano Maria Agresta as Alice Ford, the legendary Violeta Urmana as Mrs. Quickly, baritone George Petean as Ford, and the outstanding tenor Yijie Shi as Fenton.
Our journey reaches its crescendo at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples — the oldest opera house in the world, founded in 1737. On October 21, conductor Speranza Scappucci leads Rossini's La Cenerentola in a celebrated production by Damiano Michieletto. She made history as the first Italian woman to conduct at Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Aleksandra Meteleva as Angelina, Dave Monaco as Don Ramiro, and the outstanding French baritone Florian Sempey as Dandini.
Indulge in the finest hotels each city has to offer. In Milan, the luxury boutique Hotel Casa Baglioni provides an elegant and intimate retreat in the heart of the city. In Rome, the distinguished Hotel Bernini Bristol places us at the center of the city's most elegant quarter, steps from the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. In Naples, the celebrated Hotel Romeo offers contemporary luxury with sweeping views across the Bay of Naples. This Italian opera adventure extends beyond the opera stage with carefully curated excursions. In Rome, explore the timeless wonders of the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel, and the ancient ruins of the Forum. In Naples, a visit to Pompeii — the remarkably preserved Roman city and UNESCO World Heritage site — offers a profound glimpse into antiquity that enriches the historical depth of the entire journey.

We've done close to a dozen trips with The Aranis and I think I've seen enough to say it: they make it look easy. They've got the energy and sense of purpose to make it so the pieces all click together at the joints, and the tact to make you think they're having fun doing it, which means you have fun; perhaps they do too. We've got many fond memories of our trips with them and we look forward to more.
