Overview

Experience Wagner's Ring in Munich a remarkable journey where great opera, royal history, and Bavarian elegance converge during the world-renowned Munich Opera Festival.

The Munich Opera Festival has stood at the center of Wagner performance for more than 150 years, and the summer of 2027 promises to be one of its most significant seasons in recent memory. The Bayerische Staatsoper presents the complete Der Ring des Nibelungen in Tobias Kratzer's acclaimed new production, conducted throughout by General Music Director Vladimir Jurowski.

We attend all four evenings of the cycle - Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried, and Götterdämmerung together with a special Festival Song Recital by Jonas Kaufmann at the National theater, the opera house where he first rose to international prominence. Under Jurowski's leadership, the Bayerische Staatsoper continues to be recognized as one of the world's great Wagner houses, while Kratzer's thought-provoking production has captured the attention of Wagnerians across Europe and beyond.

An outstanding cast, led by Nicholas Brownlee, Ekaterina Gubanova, Markus Brück, Benjamin Bruns, and Simone Schneider, brings Wagner's monumental drama to life in one of opera's most important festivals.

Exceptional opera deserves exceptional surroundings. Our home for nine nights is the legendary Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich, the city's grand hotel for more than 150 years. Located on the elegant Maximilianstrasse, just a short walk from the National theater, it has long been the preferred address for artists, dignitaries, and discerning travelers visiting Bavaria's cultural capital.

Cultural Exploration

Between performances, we discover the rich artistic and royal heritage of Munich. Highlights include a private visit to the Bayerische Staatsoper, including the King's Box and backstage areas, an excursion to Linderhof Palace where King Ludwig II staged private performances of Wagner's works, visits to the Alte Pinakothek and the Munich Residence, and guided exploration of Munich's historic Old City, from Marienplatz to the Richard Strauss Fountain.

For Wagnerians, Munich occupies a unique place in operatic history. It was here that Das Rheingold and Die Walküre received their world premieres, and it remains one of the world's great Wagner cities. The 2027 Munich Opera Festival offers a rare opportunity to experience a complete Ring cycle in a major new production, conducted by one of today's most compelling Wagner interpreters, in the city where Wagner's legacy continues to thrive. The Munich Opera Festival 2027 promises moments that will stay with you long after the final ovation.

We've done close to a dozen trips with The Aranis and I think I've seen enough to say it: they make it look easy. They've got the energy and sense of purpose to make it so the pieces all click together at the joints, and the tact to make you think they're having fun doing it, which means you have fun; perhaps they do too. We've got many fond memories of our trips with them and we look forward to more.
