We've done close to a dozen trips with The Aranis and I think I've seen enough to say it: they make it look easy. They've got the energy and sense of purpose to make it so the pieces all click together at the joints, and the tact to make you think they're having fun doing it, which means you have fun; perhaps they do too. We've got many fond memories of our trips with them and we look forward to more.

FAQs

Absolutely. Scandinavia is now essential for opera lovers who seek musical excellence, discerning staging, and superb acoustics. Opera houses in Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm are admired for their clarity of sound, innovative productions, and strong orchestral traditions. For seasoned opera travelers, Scandinavia offers a refreshing counterpoint to Italy and Germany — less crowded, artistically ambitious, and deeply attentive to musical detail.

This journey is curated by one of North America’s oldest opera tour operators with deep Scandinavian roots. The founders are Danish, fluent in the local languages, and intimately familiar with the region's cultural rhythms. That background shapes everything — from performance selection to pacing, context, and access — creating an experience designed by insiders rather than assembled from the outside.

The significance lies in the program’s focus on exceptional artistic and cultural offerings. A gala concert of Macbeth featuring Lise Davidsen reflects the strength of today’s Nordic vocal tradition. Productions such as Robert Carsen’s Idomeneoand Akram Khan’s reimagining of Lady Macbeth showcase how Scandinavian stages balance tradition with bold reinterpretation. In Oslo and Stockholm, cornerstone works by Mozart, Puccini, and Bernstein are presented in houses renowned for musical integrity and contemporary vision.

My husband and I went with HAT Tours to Scandinavia. We had a fabulous time! We travel a lot and this has been one of the very best tours we have ever taken. The operas were all excellent and all three opera houses were amazing. We have been to all three cities before (Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen) and still we enjoyed our time in each of them on this trip. They are all beautiful, historic, welcoming. We had fantastic meals in very special restaurants. We enjoyed our fellow travelers; we were a very compatible group. All logistics and arrangements were perfect. This trip to Scandinavia was the best of the best!

Absolutely. This tour is designed for travelers who already attend opera abroad and are looking to deepen their understanding of Europe’s evolving operatic landscape. The itinerary emphasizes musical quality, artistic context, and cultural immersion rather than novelty. It is particularly appealing to opera lovers seeking to hear familiar repertoire through a distinctly Nordic lens.

Each city’s cultural exploration is closely tied to its operatic identity. Copenhagen’s maritime history and royal traditions, Oslo’s connection to landscape and mythology, and Stockholm’s blend of innovation and heritage all inform the artistic life of their opera houses. Experiencing these cities alongside their performances provides essential context, enriching understanding of the music, staging, and storytelling.
